Honesty is something most people strive for, and many of us would say that we give the truth 95% of the time, but I don’t just mean telling someone else how things are, I mean being real and honest with ourselves also.
Why is it so important?
Because we can’t get where we want to be without first acknowledging, in a very real and raw way where we are.
I struggle with this everyday still, in one huge way..pictures. By writing this blog, and having the social media accounts that I do, I must take my own pictures, which I do everyday..and everyday I hate my pictures because “the camera adds 10 pounds”. But it doesn’t. In all reality I just see myself differently from this point of view..that is actually how I look. So..I should be honest with myself and all of you, not pose a specific way to hide my double chin or rolls.
Digging in a little deeper, when I began my exercise routine, I had to be truthful with myself on where I was with physical activity, which stung..but if I had not, I would have ended up starting with routines way out of my league that probably would’ve discouraged me from exercising at all.
Here are some ideas on ways you could be honest with yourself that might help you reach your personal goals, it can be helpful to make a list, seeing things on paper can often make things a little clearer.
- before you begin to change your life around, in any area, you really need to take a moment and set your pride aside, ego has no real place in growth, and you would be surprised how satisfying it can be to just let where you are now exist, and see how far you’ve come in the future.
- What bad habits do you have?
- What are some things you should do everyday that you don’t?
- What kind of person do you want to be? Remember to always make this just for you. Often our family and friends can put standards and ideas in our minds that are not our own. This is something I personally struggle with, even to this day, so really be sure to take a moment and think about just what YOU want and find important.
- What are some skills that you should work on to reach your goals?
- Are you still growing? Learning doesn’t stop after school.
- What things do you currently do that you don’t enjoy? Of all those things, what can you stop doing to make time for things you may enjoy?
- Do you have clear boundaries?
- Do you truly appreciate, and express your appreciation for the people in your life?
These are simply some ideas of some areas of our lives that we should all take a moment to reflect on and improve on, which we can only do if we are 100% truthful with ourselves. I hope this has helped you, if it has or hasn’t I’d love to hear from you either way.
